Nations Info Corp is focused on synthesizing and packaging complex data into user-friendly products, customer acquisition, and business performance optimization. Their platform includes services like real estate listings, credit monitoring, and online marketplaces for distressed properties. I joined the company as a UX intern to research how sites, like Zillow, advertise their agents and later prototype a renewed pop-up ad for their landing page with my research.
To begin the redesign of our current popup, I started with a competitive analysis of leading real estate platforms such as Zillow and Realtor.com. I jotted down our ad's features alongside our competitors. Noting recurring features present on other sites but absent in ours, I prioritized these for inclusion in the redesign.
(Background for representation purposes only)
Features that our current ad lacked included:
Featured agents with good reviews for user selection.
Detailed information on agents and agencies, including contact details and client reviews, to boost credibility.
Language that highlights the knowledge and capability of agents and agencies in assisting customers.
After compiling my findings, I presented them to Eli, our lead UX designer, with some redesign sketches for the ad. Given our time constraints and backend software logistics, we discussed which ideas were feasible, ultimately narrowing it down to around six ideas.
I designed six desktop and mobile variations of potential real estate agent advertisements for general and company-specific use. I utilized company-specific assets and design system for the company-specific ads in my wireframes. My goal was to make the advertisement feel more personable and inviting, transforming it from an impersonal stock image to a call for help and assistance.
After another revision meeting with Eli, I finalized my wireframes and converted them into high-fidelity mockups with their respective design systems and assets. My focus was on offering users a variety of reliable agents, building their credibility with star ratings and client reviews, and showcasing the real estate companies they were affiliated with.
Through multiple discussions with Eli, Ivyan (UX/UI Designer), and Ying-Yu (Senior Manager of Advertising), I created over six iterations of each prototype. To meet technological and business specifications, we concluded that the final design should:
Use popular real estate companies instead of real agents, due to our tech limitations
Feature real people’s pictures as agents for representation purposes only.
Exclude individual agent information such as license numbers and specific reviews.
Display static star reviews and agent counts, as real-time updates are not possible.
Maintain the existing copy from our current site.
After consulting with Ying-Yu and Eli, we finalized the ad designs, and I presented them to the CEO, CFO, and business managers. The agreed design features three cards showing real estate agencies with star ratings and agent counts, including agent photos for representation purposes. We retained the existing copy and assets, and this iteration was favored for its alignment with company branding and project constraints.
My internship concluded after I presented to the executives, although I would have loved to have had additional time to continue with the redesign. With more time, I would have tracked:
Overall, my experience at Nations Info Corp was great. I learned a lot and appreciated their unrivaled hospitality. I hope to work with this team again in the future.
